✨ About the Exhibition
Reflections from the Not So Distant Past in Oman is a visual and narrative journey into the Sultanate’s recent past, featuring sixty striking black-and-white portraits drawn from the two-volume book series of the same name, commissioned by the Government of Oman.
Each image serves not only as a visual record but is paired with an abridged oral history — adapted from full-length accounts preserved in the bilingual (English and Arabic) editions of the series.
Visitors are invited to explore the early and mid-twentieth century through the untold stories of Oman’s unsung heroes. These sixty oral histories — shared by men and women who endured extraordinary hardship — reveal a reality so stark it might seem unimaginable, were it not told by those who lived it.
This exhibition stands as a tribute to the human spirit and to the enduring capacity of communities to transform adversity into legacy.
